Update from Wild Thyme

 

 

Dear Friends

 

Whilst we hate to wish time away, are we the only ones that are pleased January is nearly at an end? A little less pressure to keep up those New Year’s resolutions (although one customer told me hers was to enjoy more Wild Thyme Take Me Home meals!), a little nearer to Spring, and hopefully a chink of light that a more normal way of life is not too far off now.

 

We do hope you have kept in good health, relatively sane and well fed this past month.  Thank you so much to all of you that have ordered a Take Me Home meal and for all of your lovely messages of gratitude which really mean a lot to us.

 

It was somewhat bitter-sweet to send out the 30,000th Mary Meal this month, a project that we are incredibly pleased to have been be a part of throughout the pandemic.  To know that so many people on our doorstep are struggling financially; but to be able to help in this way, is both humbling and rewarding (and it keeps Nick busy in his happy place that is the kitchen).

 

We are happy to bring you our February Take Me Home menus which include a special Valentine’s one for collection or delivery on Saturday, 13th.  This meal replaces our normal Friday night service and will keep well in the fridge until the following day for those of you that want to enjoy it on Sunday 14th.

 

Let us all spread a little love this month however we can!

Valentine’s Take Me Home Menu – Saturday, 13 February

£100 per couple

 

For collection/delivery Saturday 13 February (keep refrigerated overnight to be enjoyed on Sunday, 14 February if preferred)

 

For that special Valentine’s treat add a ….

 

Bottle of Devaux Rose Champagne and a single red rose for extra £45

Or

Bottle of Chateau de Rouet, “Esterelle” Cotes de Provence Rose and a single red rose for £20

Sicilian olives & peppers, smoked almonds, homemade bread

 

Starter

Tomato, red pepper & sweet potato soup, sour cream & chives

 

Main

Classic steak Diane, rich Paris mushroom, cream sauce, dauphinois & winter greens

 

Souffle

Double baked Gorgonzola cheese souffle, local honey, hazelnuts

 

Pud

Rich dark chocolate fondant, raspberry centre, clotted cream

Take Me Home Menus for January

 

Friday, 29 January

 

Starter

Crispy filo King prawns, chipotle dip, homemade bread

Chargrilled fillet steak, green peppercorn sauce, potato dauphinois, winter greens

Chocolate brioche pudding, clotted cream

Helping the local community with Mary's Meals – Update!

 

So since the restaurant closed on the 22 March we have cooked in the region of 10,000 meals in the past 20 weeks and this is how we did it…

 

Every Monday we had a delivery of fresh vegetables, meat, pasta and rice all either bought with donations or donated directly through St Mary’s Church, Chipping Norton. It was quite a task to peel and chop all those veggies in one afternoon.

 

Tuesday was the big cook up day where Nick turned this produce into four or five different dishes, we aimed to cook around 500 meals a week.   Meals have included chicken curry, pasta bolognese, chunky beef and sweet potato chill and sausage casserole.

 

Wednesday mornings was spent packaging and labelling meals before delivering into the seven freezers occupying the old Nat West building.

 

It’s been our absolute pleasure to have been able to help provide these meals to you and families in our community during lockdown and we hope you’ve enjoyed them!

 

It’s been great to work together with Mary’s Meals at The Branch and we are making plans of how we can continue to work together to bring more tasty, healthy food to the community - hopefully offering you an opportunity to cook!

 

For the last week of providing these meals we sent out a recipe card with all the ingredients to have a go at making Nick’s legendary Sausage Casserole.

For the time being we are only selling gift vouchers for our weekly Take me Home Dinner service. This is a great way to treat someone during these difficult times – a voucher for two costs £60 and may be used on any week of choice up until the end of this year.
